Like many of you, I spend an awful lot of my free time looking at wedding blogs. There’s something about those wedding photo’s and the fabulous design teams behind each of them that brings a warmth to my heart. On my personal computer, I save any photo I see that gives me that feeling. It may be a photo of a basket of cherries or a tire swing over a lake but it makes me think of the carefree summers of childhood.

Recently, I decided to sort through some of the hundreds of saved photo’s on my personal computer and categorize them. And since so many of them are of wedding details, I thought I would share some with you.

Today, I compiled some of my favourite wedding cakes. In looking at these, I realize that while each cake is different they definitely have similar characteristics. I can see that I personally like a cake that is a little bit understated, but not forgettable.  I love a cake that has that fresh home baked look to it but I also like a cake that’s timeless and classic.

So here are my personal favourites!

Be 100 per cent present and allow yourself  to foster positive thinking.

Avoid snowball thinking or what-ifs. One bad thought leads to another, leading to another until you’ve created a snowball.  Stop at your first sign of stress.

Realize that not everything is an emergency and that mistakes aren’t all bad, they make life real and exciting.

I once attended a wedding where the bride slipped as she set foot on a small set of stairs immediately after her father walked her down the isle. Her fiancé was ready to take her hand. Instead, he caught her in the knick of time, saved her from falling and gently carried her in his arms all the way up the stairs to the alter. All the guests gasped and thought it was adorable. It was so precious and romantic and one of the most memorable ceremony moments!

One of our favorite way to WOW wedding guests is by the music. Music sets the mood and the overall atmosphere of the wedding. Music will determine whether or not your guests will mingle in the seating area or hit the dance floor. We love when couples play unexpected and unconventional music. Chances are, if you love the song, so will everyone else! Play a one hit wonder that was popular when you met. Play an old romantic song that your grandparents listened to. Play a top forty song to get the party going. Play a song in a different language just for fun!

A band hired to play soft jazz music during dinner is always impressive. At one Firefly Wedding we had Italian opera singers dressed as waiters. They unexpectedly started singing during dinner. They sang an old Italian folk song that the bride always heard from her grandfather as a little girl. The opera singers got a standing ovation as everyone was shocked and awed.

One of our favorite WOW factors is the excitement of dancing the night away with friends, family and of course your new husband or wife!
