Back in ‘93 it wasn’t hard to find Mariah Carey’s first marriage all over glossy magazines stacked high and low at the supermarket. I wasn’t very old then but how can a little girl forget a celebrity bride wearing a puffy-shouldered wedding dress, resembling a cream puff, plastered all over magazines? And who could forget hottie, Nick Lachey, from 98*C and singer Jessica Simpson’s wedding photos featured in every teeny bopper magazine in 2002?! (This is one of those couples that I think everyone wishes stayed together.) One of the most memorable wedding features that I can remember is Pam Anderson’s. She flaunted a hot little LA style wedding dress on the cover of OK Magazine. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Victoria and David Beckham, and most recently Carrie Underwood and Hilary Duff who both married NHL stars… the list of publicized celebrity weddings goes on and on. Celebrity wedding photos are so sought after because everyone wants to see who made the dress, who made the cake, who attended with whom, and for us here at Firefly, we love to see what the décor looked like.
So my question is, is it tacky or tasteful when celebs sell their wedding photos to magazines such as OK, PEOPLE and US Weekly? Weddings are sacred and very private and many people strive to keep it that way. Can you really put a price on family milestones such as the birth of a child or a wedding? What if the couple donated the money received to a charity. Would this change your mind or does it make it even tackier?
On the other hand, who can resist two million dollars for selling exclusive rights to wedding photos!? (AHEM not Eva Longoria and Tony Parker.) Also what celebrity could resist all the attention? A-list celeb couples are almost guaranteed to land a cover spot on a magazine with professional wedding photos. Personally, I would jump on this free publicity faster than Spencer Pratt.
Truth be told, if I were a celebrity and finally married Canadian actor, Ryan Reynolds, you would definitely see me on the cover of PEOPLE wearing a custom-made Vera Wang holding a pink bouquet on the beaches of Tahiti.

Let’s be serious. Nobody hearts Mondays. So every Monday we are here to lighten the mood and talk about things we do heart: Extraordinary Escort Cards
I can’t think of anything more boring than a blank piece of paper with a name on it. Escort cards shouldn’t be dull or overlooked. There are so many ways to create escort cards that not only add a personal touch to your wedding but also impress guests with your creativity and thoughtfulness.
She Says: This is another one of those great little ways to make the wedding all about you as a unique couple.
Guests love little details like this. They will take photos of the cards, talk about them and in some cases cherish them! For example, the little candles below serve as escort cards and wedding favors.
So what’s the difference between escort cards and place cards?
Escort cards tell guests at what table they should sit at.
Place cards are at the table and tell guests in what seat they should sit.
Some important tips for creating escort cards:
1. With a large amount of guests, avoid tying the cards to trees like the photo on the bottom left. It will take forever before guests find their card.
2. Try organizing the escort cards in alphabetical order rather than table numbers to make the process quicker. If the cards are tied to items, line up the items so guests don’t have to search.
3. Don’t have loose leaf escort cards at outdoor weddings (even on a sunny calm day). The wind could sweep them off in a second. Hold them in place with faux diamonds, river rocks or ribbon.
4. Keep them consistent. If you write Mr./Mrs. on one card, continue to do this on all of the others.
5. Depending on what your escort card is, decide whether you want to give one out per person or per couple or per family.

Chelsea Clinton, 30, and her fiancé Marc Mezvinsky, 32, were married this Saturday of the August long weekend. The ceremony took place at Astor Courts in the small town of Rhinebeck, New York.
The former First Daughter Chelsea wore a Vera Wang dress and later changed into another Grecian dress for the wedding reception according to PEOPLE. Chelsea and Marc rocked the dance floor and surprised the 400 guests. It was obvious that they took lessons.
Some of the celebrities who attended the wedding included, former President Bill Clinton, current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Vernon Jordan, Terry Auliffe, Madeleine Albright, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Steve Bing and Vera Wang. It was rumored that Oprah and Tom Hanks were also invited yet they were nowhere to be seen.
According to Radar Online, Chelsea and Marc were together for five years and were childhood pals. Their wedding planner was Bryan Rafanelli of Boston.
After the wedding the newlyweds jetted off to their honeymoon at an undisclosed location. Rumor has it that guests stayed to party at the wedding until 3 a.m.! Who knew these prestigious politicians knew how to party? Famous or not, It sounds like the wedding was an absolute success shared with friends and family.
“Despite the fact that we have had interesting careers, we still consider the most important job we ever had being the parents of Chelsea.” – Bill Clinton.

Pirates of the Caribbean star, Orlando Bloom, 33, and his new wife, Miranda Kerr, 27, are back from the honeymoon in the tropics. The couple vacationed in the Caribbean for four days after the wedding. They stayed at the Viceroy hotel on the luxury island of Anguilla.
According to Radar Online, the wedding was a complete surprise to fans. News about the wedding was leaked after Kerr stated that she was not going to appear at the Australian department store David Jones.
She said: “David Jones very graciously released me during this period so we could celebrate an intimate ceremony and honeymoon together.”
Looking back at their history, the couple wed after only being engaged for a month however they have been dating since late 2007 according to PEOPLE magazine. The couple made their first public appearance back in April of 2008. Last year during Thanksgiving they spent time in Morocco vacationing.
Even celebrities want their own personal space sometimes. The couple deserves their privacy and it’s no shocker that they requested their wedding details be kept a secret. As of yet, not many wedding details have been released. -We wish them the best!

Happy Saturday! – Firefly Occasions
My name’s Kendra Scott, I’m the Wedding’s Division Manager at Firefly Occasions and as of December 19th, I now have my own wedding to plan! Every Friday I write a feature article where I document my personal wedding planning journey each step of the way.
Cupcakes, Candy Bar, Wedding Cake, Sundae Bar, there are sooooo many options! Probably my current favourite is the Sundae Bar we posted earlier this week on the blog:). However, I can’t have it all and my unhealthy obsession with Crave Cupcakes has taken over. The majority of my guests are travelling from Ontario and though they have their own cupcake shoppes there, I know many are looking forward to tasting these little mouth-fulls of joy that I won’t stop talking about
. We’ve decided to go with a sweet table of mini cupcakes, macaroons and a 6” cake. This week I came across so many cute options for cake toppers and I’m really excited for the topper we’ve selected. I didn’t want a traditional Husband and Wife cake topper and I wasn’t sure what I did want. Luckily, Etsy.com never fails and I found an abundance of great ideas! I really liked the “Love” topper and custom colours were an option which is wonderful. However, I really fell in love with this sugar rose. I can’t believe the talent some people have. Can you believe this is made from sugar!? I’m curious to see how it’s shipped? Hopefully it’s not in little pieces when it arrives. They do say though that they won’t ship to Canada….minor detail haha that’s not stopping me.
Now that we’re within our six month mark to the wedding we can finally arrange a meeting for our cupcakes and cake… one of the only aspects my fiance has any interest in.

Last Saturday Khadijah Haqq and Bobby McCray (former New Orleans Saints football star) tied the knot in Los Angeles. According to Radar Online, Khloe Kardashian is the bride’s best friend and was a bridesmaid in the wedding. Khloe and her husband Lamar Odom seemed to be having a wonderful time together at the reception.
Khloe also brought her entire family who showed up in style! (As always)
Kim wore a tan and fitted dress with silver studded heels. It’s a small world… Kim’s ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush was one of the groomsmen at the wedding. Awkward. Regardless, Kim kept her cool and glowed with confidence as the ex-couple kept their distances.
As for Kourtney, her and her boyfriend rolled up in a brand new Lamborghini.
Their mother Kris and step-dad Bruce Jenner also attended the celeb wedding.
As for the bride and groom? Well, they were stylish as well. Khadijah wore a white layered dress with a sweetheart fitted top and Bobby wore a gorgeous tan tux!
Lesson to be learned for all you future brides out there: Be prepared to have your thunder stolen when inviting A-List celebs like Kim Kardashian to your wedding.
For more info about the celeb wedding day, watch the Keeping Up With the Kardashians TV episode to be aired soon. If you can’t wait, go to www.radaronline.com for more details.

She and He introduce a weekly cutting edge style combo for him and her.
She Says: When Jason Mesnick (The Bachelor) married Molly Malaney, wedding guests were covered in a sea of plastic clear umbrellas as rain drops fell during the ceremony. According to the producers, they had no idea about the weather forecast before the ceremony and had no idea it would rain. Luckily guests had umbrellas at hand and were prepared for the unruly weather.
ALWAYS ensure that there is at least one umbrella near the bride and groom at any outdoor wedding ceremony. If you’re planning an outdoor summer wedding with potential rain in the forecast, don’t fret. Umbrellas not only shelter from rain, they’re a great fashion statement! –Even if it’s not raining, colored umbrellas that shelter from sun are perfect for a destination wedding!
Umbrellas can easily match your wedding theme because there are a variety of styles to buy or rent. Italian, beach, pagoda, vintage, colored, ruffled, double layered… the list goes on!
Bella Umbrella is a great website to rent or buy umbrellas that match the theme of your wedding. http://vintage.bellaumbrella.com/default2.aspx

It was supposed to be a beautiful springtime outdoor wedding but when snow started falling in Calgary in May we knew the wedding would need to be moved inside. Luckily our backup plan worked out perfectly and the couple were married with a backdrop of a beautiful oak wall with lime green and brown lampshade chandeliers. The aisle was lined with green amaranthus and guests sat in gold chiavari chairs.
The bride and groom had a ton of fun taking photos with Perry Thompson Photography and returned to their room at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce which had been completely transformed into their reception. Tables had corkscrew place card holders, green napkins, chocolate brown dupioni silk table cloths and of course the gold chiavaris. You can see that chairs really do make a difference in the atmosphere of the room. The centerpieces were a combination of low boxes filled with green button mums, freesia and roses and tall lampshades on a vase with green orchids floating inside.
