It’s been busy today. We were on the VIBE 98.5FM Morning Show in Calgary talking about destination weddings and the Bon Voyage party that we’re hosting for Emil and Emily, the winners of the VIBE 98.5 Dream Destination Wedding to Jamaica. We’re having the party at V Ultra Lounge in Calgary (on Stephen Avenue beside Earls) on Saturday. It’d be great if you stopped by! Although we’re hosting the couple and their friends and family in a private area at first we will be opening up the area later on and partying with all of V. Special thanks to the great vendors who helped us pull off the Bon Voyage party – V Ultra Lounge, Great Events Rentals, Glimpz Invitations and Perry Thompson Photography.

This weekend is the Bon Voyage party we are hosting for Emil & Emily, the winners of the VIBE 98.5 Dream Destination Wedding. They have chosen a white party theme, so all the guests will be arriving dressed in white and we’re transforming the interior of the bar into a beach themed party. It truly is a Bon Voyage party as the couple will be leaving for Jamaica the next day, check back here for the pictures next week, some of the VIBE crew will be there as well so you never know what might happen.
The following weekend Ciara and I are heading to Grand Cayman to meet with the best of the best in the wedding industry. Yeah, I’m really looking forward to this, packing the snorkel gear, my camera and a note book. Can’t wait to share what I learn with you guys when I get back.

Seems to me that summer may have finally shown up, the sun is out and like clockwork, all the guys on my street appeared on Saturday morning with their lawnmowers. We have our painters in this week giving the house a facelift and updating the colors of the trim. I secretly always hated the green trim color and now it’s gone. In 3 weeks we’ll be throwing Vibe 98.5 winners Emil & Emily the Bon voyage party to end all Bon voyage parties at V Lounge. We have a great theme and we’ll be bringing in our own décor and really transforming the place. I’m really looking forward to it. Stay Tuned for pictures. We just got back from an event in Maui, Hawaii and while I miss the daily snorkeling trips, I am glad to be home. Greetings from beautiful Maui, Hawaii. I’m here with my amazing wife for our Mastermind group with Ali Brown. I love getting away from the office and re charging my batteries. We have a snorkeling trip planned and we’re gonna head up a mountain and watch the sun rise one morning, I’m told it is breath taking. We’re heading into a busy season, and we’re really stepping up our décor, I can’t wait to share with you over the coming months what we have come up with…let’s just say, I’m getting really friendly with a Hollywood film prop shop, I knew my geeky knowledge of film would come in handy one day.
Just got back from 2 meetings in Hermosa Beach, Cali. What amazing weather we had, and the energy down there is great. It was a bit of a shock to get back home and have to face the snow. Seems a little better now though, at least I can see blue skies and the sun. Before we were out in Cali, we had the pleasure of spending the weekend as the guests of The Chateau Lake Louise. We got a full tour of the hotel and all the ballrooms, we even got to head into the kitchen and chat with the chefs. I have to say, the experience was amazing. If you’re looking for a Rocky Mountain Wedding and Banff just doesn’t do it for you, take a look at Lake Louise. You’ll be glad you did. We’re jetting off to Maui next week for a meeting, but we’re going to be touring the Four Seasons to take some notes, so if you’re looking to get married in Maui, I’ll have some notes for you when I get back.

I love these trees, we build them on site for each event then dismantle them and re-build them for the next one. It’s pretty labor intensive but it’s worth every minute.
I hope you’re enjoying spring now that it seems to have finally arrived. I’m headed up to Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains as the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is putting on an exclusive showcase for a select group of wedding planners and we’ve been invited to attend. I’m bringing along my camera and my Flip video so stay tuned for some updates!
I’m also headed to LA to meet with several other high end wedding planners from around North America whom I coach and we’re all hitting up the YWD Magazine party while we’re there so I’ll have lots of cool new ideas for you when I get back.
I’m heading out to The Chateau Lake Louise this weekend, they are kindly putting my wife and I up and giving us a tour of the facilities. I love Lake Louise, it’s so beautiful, and makes for a great destination wedding venue that’s not even that far from us here in Calgary. Sunday we’re flying out to LA for our first in person Rockstar Wedding Planner Legends meeting, hosted by Firefly Occasions. My wife and I are coaching other planners on how to build their businesses. We’ll be meeting up with 10 other planners from across North America and chatting about building our businesses and the latest and greatest trends in the industry. I love these meetings, we get so many great ideas from them. We’ll also be meeting with some LA area vendors to discuss what they can offer to make your weddings out of this world. There is so much creativity out there and I love to bring it back to Calgary to give my grooms a one of kind wedding that no one out here has seen before.
So we have had a very busy 2009 so far. We are working with some great couples and we’re doing the Bon Voyage party for the VIBE 98.5 winning couple. So the business is growing, we hired an in office assistant to help us take it to the next level. I’m really excited about the direction we are heading. Traffic to www.gutsygroom.com has increased over 200% in the last month. Can you see the smile on my face? We’ll be reworking the site to offer you guys some cool stuff so stay tuned. The best part in my opinion will be the trip to Grand Cayman Island in June to attend the “Engage-09” conference. The crème de la crème of planners will be there and you can be sure I’ll be taking copious notes to bring back to my guys.
Have you ever dreamed of attending a party at the Legendary Playboy Mansion? Well if you’re reading this blog you are now one step closer to attaining that dream. I had the pleasure of attending the Kandyland Party a couple of years back, in fact…my wife took me!
I never dreamed I would set foot on the grounds of the Mansion but my job comes with perks. And now I pass my perks onto you. I have access to tickets to this years Kandyland Party at the Playboy Mansion in the Hollywood Hills. Yes, the real Mansion! And yes, I did see the Man himself…Hugh Hefner.
Kandyland is Willy Wonka meets Alice in Wonderland. The grounds are decorated with huge lollipops, mushrooms, candycanes and they even have Oompa Loompas, they greeted us as we arrived
We had full access to the grounds, including the games room, I played fooseball with Dave Navarro
We got to check out the Grotto and take pictures with some Playmates
It was a night I will never forget. I have since sent a few of my friends and clients (it makes for a truly one a kind stag bash) down to the Mansion and now it’s your turn. And don’t worry, with the security, press and famous people, it’s really not a rowdy as everyone thinks it is.
