TWILIGHT! No Seriously, It’s TWILIGHT

Posted November 15, 2011 in Advice, Brides, Decor, Firefly Updates, Grooms, Recommends, Weddings. See View Comments.

Our good friends over at Wildflower Linen in Los Angeles had some exciting news to share.  About linens and that little movie I hear is out…I think it’s called Twilight, pasty white guy, sullen girl, some sort of lama with a six pack.  I’m told it’s pretty popular.

The company’s owner and founder Youngsong Martin was a guest speaker at our very first Rockstar Wedding Planner LIVE event 3 years back in LA.  If you’re wondering what that is, Ciara coaches other wedding planners across North America on how to grow their businesses.  It’s a pretty cool thing for the industry.  Youngsong is doll, and so damn talented.  We’re starting to see a lot of Twilight inspired wedding themes and I can only imagine how crazy it’s gonna get.

Anyway, here is the email we got from Wildflower.  Congratulations guys, amazing work.

Wildflower Linen is official licensee of linens, bedding, and home decor inspired by Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″

Renowned special-event designer Youngsong Martin and her company Wildflower Linen are no strangers to Hollywood glamour, having created high-fashion décor for the post-Oscars Governor’s Ball, Vanity Fair after-parties and such red-carpet galas as a world-premiere bash at the Venice Film Festival in Italy.  Youngsong’s elegant table linens and accessories decorated the long-awaited wedding of Bella and Edward, in the fourth installment of Summit Entertainment’s international blockbuster film franchise, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 ” which is in theaters starting November 18, 2011.

Now, thanks to a unique licensing collaboration between Wildflower Linen and Summit Entertainment, fans of the movies’ legendary romance, passion and intrigue can bring “Twilight Saga” inspired fashion décor into their own home.  As an official licensee of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” Wildflower Linen has created an exclusive, themed line of glamorous table linens, chair covers, napkins, and tabletop accessories inspired by the actual linens used in the film. These collections were all created and designed by Youngsong Martin.

Wildflower Linen’s “Twilight Saga” inspired decor items debuted recently at the celebrity-studded “Official Twilight Convention” at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, which was attended by the stars of the films, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Fan reaction to Youngsong Martin’s new line of themed table linens, chair covers and home décor accessories was overwhelmingly positive.

“I am so excited to be returning to my fashion-design retailing roots by marketing these new ‘Twilight Saga’ inspired products for fans who would love to infuse their own celebrations with the ‘Twilight’ touch,” Martin remarked.

Product descriptions, specifications, prices and availability information will soon be provided at Wildflower Linen’s website, www.wildflowerlinens.com.  Retailers and prospective purchasers also can obtain information about the official “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ linen products by contacting Wildflower Linen’s headquarters at (714) 522-2777 or twilight@wildflowerlinens.com.

The next chapter of “The Twilight Saga” will be released as two separate films with the first of the two – “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ – slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011 and the second coming to theatres on November 16, 2012.  Academy Award® winner Bill Condon directed both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.  In “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” Bella (Stewart) and Edward (Pattinson), plus those they love, must deal with the chain of consequences brought on by a marriage and honeymoon, and the tumultuous birth of a child… which brings an unforeseen and shocking development for Jacob Black (Lautner).  With more of the romance, passion, intrigue and action that made “Twilight,” “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” worldwide blockbusters, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″, based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling book series, begins the conclusion of the tale of vampire love, boundless friendship, acceptance, and finding your true self.  The project, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, is written by Melissa Rosenberg with Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer producing.

About Youngsong Martin and Wildflower Linen: Since launching Wildflower Linen in 2001, Youngsong Martin has been celebrated for redefining the concept of “designer” rental linens while creating special-event decor for presidential mansions, famed party planning professionals, style-conscious wedding hosts, the U.S. State Department, red carpet events of all kinds, and such superstars as Oprah Winfrey and Elton John. The former women’s apparel designer has also developed a nationwide clientele for her Southern California-based rental company while launching six high-style Wildflower Linen showrooms in Orange County, Beverly Hills, San Francisco, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Utah’s renowned Deer Valley-Park City alpine resort area. Youngsong Martin’s international acclaim has grown meanwhile through décor consulting alliances with major hospitality businesses overseas. Youngsong also has appeared in several design-oriented reality TV and documentary series and on radio and TV shows internationally.

About Summit Entertainment: Summit Entertainment LLC is a worldwide theatrical motion picture development, financing, production and distribution studio. While handling all aspects of marketing and distribution for its own internally developed productions and acquired pictures, Summit Entertainment also oversees international sales for its own and third-party products. The studio releases 10 to 12 films annually on average.

And now as always, a word from our keywords…Twilight, Team Edward, Team Jacob, Wedding, Celebrity, Film, Firefly Occasions, Planner, Ceremony, Reception, Wildflower Linen, Youngsong Martin, Movie, Romantic, Vampire, Werewolf, Robert Pattinson, Tyler Lautner, Kristen Stewart, Hollywood, Glamor, Breaking Dawn & Stephenie Meyer…..that’s all folks!

Backyard Birthday Party

Posted November 11, 2011 in Decor, Events, Firefly Updates, Recommends. See View Comments.

This past summer we did an outdoor family birthday party.  The weather held for most of the evening then it poured, but by that time it was late and all the good stuff had happened already.  Just because you have a party in your backyard, doesn’t mean it has to look like a back yard.

We hung working chandeliers form the trees, yes, we plugged them in and they gave off a great glow as the sun set.  Each guest had their own, individual and different tea cup (it’s the little details people remember and we specialize in little details.

We brought in white chivari chairs for a crisp summer feel and then added pops of color with the teal table cloth and bright napkins.  And what is a birthday party without cake?  Well we had two, so guests had a choice.  Macaroons?  Yes please…they also added some pops of color.

A big thanks to Alan Maudie for the photography that night and to Edralyn Chapman of Floral Artistry for the flowers, amazing as always Lyn.  And of course to Ciara Daykin of Firefly Occasions, for the design concept of the entire party.

I’m still getting the hang of the image editor thingy on the blog, so the pics are pretty much all over the place, but hey…I think symmetry can be overrated anyway.

Today’s blog post is sponsored by the following key words…Outdoor, Birthday, Party, Event, Alan Maudie, Floral Artistry, Firefly Occasions, Chiavari Chairs, Linens, Chandelier(s), Cake, Macaroons.

Thanks for reading…if you have an upcoming wedding or event and you’d like to meet with us to discuss your vision, please email info@fireflyoccasions.com or give us a call on the old telephono at 1-800-791-5636 EXT 701.

Pantone Spring Colors For All I Say!!!!

Posted November 09, 2011 in Advice, Brides, Decor, Firefly Updates, Grooms, Weddings, Wedding Planning, Weddings. See View Comments.

So every season a few very colorful people get together and tell the rest of us what colors will be hot in the upcoming months.  So for the spring of 2012, the aforementioned folks have put their heads together and given us these wonderfully named colors to have a look at.  I love bold colors so I’m pretty happy about this.

Here is what Event Solutions had to say about the whole thing…

“Event planners and designers take their cues from fashion, and if Pantone’s spring 2012 palette is any indication, it’s going to be a rockin’, eye-popping season!

“Consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Leading the pack is Tangerine Tango, an enticing juicy orange, while Solar Power provides a jolt of energy that radiates warmth and cheer. Bellflower and Cabaret keep the purples and pinks in the center of attention. Quieter hues include Sodalight Blue and Cockatoo, a tactile blue-green that adds a whimsical touch to the palette.

Margarita lifts spirits with its refreshing and stimulating glow. Fragrant and delicate Sweet Lilac adds a touch of romance to any occasion. Neutrals, so essential to every palette, include Driftwood, which has a weathered feel and Starfish, a warm summer neutral that goes with all the colors in spring’s top picks.

Which is your favorite?”

So when you are looking for colors to add into your wedding, keep these in mind.  Coz the powers that be tell us these are the hot ones.  If you don’t like any of them…no problem, it’s your wedding after all, I’m just here to add my 2 cents.

Firefly Occasions Inc. – Real Weddings – Marcia & Steve Get Married

Posted November 01, 2011 in Brides, Decor, Events, Firefly Updates, Grooms, Weddings, Wedding Planning, Weddings. See View Comments.

It was a beautiful September day in Calgary, Alberta when Marcia & Steve were married in their stunning backyard.  But being Calgary we still had to be aware of the weather, the crazy weather we get in Calgary, Banff and Canmore for that matter.  You never know when a cold front will swoop over those Rocky Mountains and lay waste to the best laid plans.  That’s why…as wedding planners, we always have a plan B or in this case, an AMAZING plan A.  The plan, as you see was to tent the backyard.  Keeping in mind the incredible view from this yard, we had to make sure you could still see the mountains.  Therefore, it was a clear tent all the way!!!  The yard was completely landscaped so we have to use a tent with varying leg heights on it so we could make sure the tent fit in the yard the way it was supposed to.

We also attached (working!) chandeliers form the ceiling…took a little time on a ladder but it looks great…plus I hate heights so it was a fun morning for me.  The Bride walked down the side of the house, under the deck and out into the sunshine, down the aisle to meet Steve under an arch Steve had installed in the yard (He loves his landscaping, and he’s really good at it as well, so that helped)  The guests were happily seated under the protection of the tent, we removed all tent walls so it wouldn’t get too hot under there.  And under the arch, the couple said their “I Dos”.

Once the ceremony was complete, we flipped the tent to be set for the reception and dinner and installed a dance floor on the lower portion of the lawn, we set the DJ up on the grass and the new shed doubled as a really cool bar.  We of course included heaters for later on in the evening so the couple and their guests could stay nice and toasty as the partied the evening away.  There was also a fire pit in the yard with comfy seating and marshmallows to be roasted.

The Firefly team was on hand to make sure every little detail was looked after and everything went smoothly.  If you would like more information regarding our services and how we can assist you in creating the perfect wedding for you or someone you know, please contact us at info@fireflyoccasions.com or give us a call at 1-800-791-5636 Ext – 701

Firefly Occasions Inc. – REAL WEDDINGS – Katrina & Zane Get Married

Posted October 29, 2011 in Brides, Decor, Events, Firefly Updates, Grooms, Weddings, Wedding Planning, Weddings. See View Comments.

A Christmas Wedding in Calgary

Katrina and Zane got married in Calgary on December 23rd 2010.  This incredible winter wedding was held at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Calgary and was planned and designed by us…Firefly Occasions Inc.  The couple came to us with a vision of a winter wonderland wedding that incorporated white, silver and blue, lots of romantic candle light and of course some WOW factors.  (Something we specialize in!)

So here are a few details on this amazing wedding.  Let’s start with the ceremony shall we?  I had the idea of erecting a tent INSIDE the ballroom (always wanted to do this)  There wasn’t a tent in a color they liked, so I called my tent guy and asked him to build a custom tent just for the couple in their colors.  He agreed and the rest is history.  We used the tent as a focal point for the ceremony, draping it in crystals and spotlighting it from the ceiling (more on that later) Behind the tent we brought in a beautiful swagged backdrop from our suppliers in California and added hanging votive candles to it at varying heights, looked AMAZING!  We draped the entire room in white drape and then lit it in the couples color…in this case ice blue.  White aisle runner, Firefly Occasions signature candelabras to line the aisle, rose petals, plenty of romantic candle light and flower balls hanging from the ceiling.

Oh, and did I mention we shut off all the lights and pin spotted the aisle…yup, amazing effect, no cost to the couple.  The guests sat in darkness as the Bride walked in and out of pools of light on her way down the aisle.  I got this idea while attending a Sarah Brightman concert, why can’t we have a ceremony in the dark I thought?  The couple loved the idea, so we went with it.

For the reception, we decided to use square tables, a kings head table on a stage and centerpieces of varying heights to break up the room.  In my humble opinion, the room looked stunning.  We love surprising the guests at our events….so we kept the dance floor portion of the room completely hidden until it was time for the first dance.  When the time came, we snuck the Bride and Groom into the other section of the ballroom and our Firefly staff pulled back the curtains as the first song began to play.  Again, a WOW factor for the guests, no cost to the couple.

Firefly Occasions Signature Decor Collection: Silver Candelabras

The Firefly Occasions Signature Decor Collection

Featuring the Signature Silver Candelabras

Candelabras are a timeless classic that offer a romantic elegance to your ceremony and reception wedding décor.  Our silver candelabras are part of the Firefly Occasions Signature Decor Collection that is exclusively available only to our brides and grooms.

These tall and graceful candelabras will create a wow factor at your wedding ceremony. When lined along the isle, the décor pieces have a great impact since guests are accustomed to seeing pew bows or small vases. Flowers placed on the candelabras sit high and create a beautiful dramatic effect. This is perfect for weddings held outdoors or in venues with high ceilings.

Flowers, crystals and pillar candles can be used to custom design the candelabras to harmonize with your venue and your overall wedding décor vision.

When using the signature candelabras at your wedding reception, Firefly recommends that not every table have one. Placing the décor pieces on only one third of the tables will avoid the room from looking cluttered.

These are just a few ways to take your wedding décor from cookie cutter to haute couture. See how Firefly Occasions can custom design the signature silver candelabras for your wedding.

She and He Heart Mondays: Extraordinary Escort Cards

Posted August 16, 2010 in Advice, Brides, Bridal Fashion, Decor, Pictures, Trends. See View Comments.

Let’s be serious. Nobody hearts Mondays. So every Monday we are here to lighten the mood and talk about things we do heart:  Extraordinary Escort Cards

I can’t think of anything more boring than a blank piece of paper with a name on it. Escort cards shouldn’t be dull or overlooked. There are so many ways to create escort cards that not only add a personal touch to your wedding but also impress guests with your creativity and thoughtfulness.

She Says: This is another one of those great little ways to make the wedding all about you as a unique couple.

Guests love little details like this. They will take photos of the cards, talk about them and in some cases cherish them! For example, the little candles below serve as escort cards and wedding favors.

So what’s the difference between escort cards and place cards?

Escort cards tell guests at what table they should sit at.

Place cards are at the table and tell guests in what seat they should sit.

Some important tips for creating escort cards:

1. With a large amount of guests, avoid tying the cards to trees like the photo on the bottom left. It will take forever before guests find their card.

2. Try organizing the escort cards in alphabetical order rather than table numbers to make the process quicker. If the cards are tied to items, line up the items so guests don’t have to search.

3. Don’t have loose leaf escort cards at outdoor weddings (even on a sunny calm day). The wind could sweep them off in a second. Hold them in place with faux diamonds, river rocks or ribbon.

4. Keep them consistent. If you write Mr./Mrs. on one card, continue to do this on all of the others.

5. Depending on what your escort card is, decide whether you want to give one out per person or per couple or per family.

She and He Fridays: A Wedding Planner’s Wedding

Posted July 30, 2010 in Brides, Bridal Fashion, Brides, Decor. See View Comments.

My name’s Kendra Scott, I’m the Wedding’s Division Manager at Firefly Occasions and as of December 19th, I now have my own wedding to plan! Every Friday I write a feature article where I document my personal wedding planning journey each step of the way.

Well with only 6 months left until the wedding, it was time to start thinking about the décor plans. So this week, you get a little sneak peek into part of our planning process with our décor clients. Normally, after our décor consultation with the client, we create renderings of the décor ideas and when possible try to incorporate these renderings into their actual venue. We find it very helpful to be able to see what these ideas will actually look like in the venue. However, since this is for my own wedding and not a client, I haven’t put quite that much effort in haha. So you won’t see what this looks like in our venue but I think you’ll get the idea. Of course, my sketches had notes written all over them, so I’ve tried to crop those out as much as possible.  I had decided already on the pink, champagne and ivory colours with lots of lace, pearls, antique picture frames and tea cups. I think we’ll have our flower girls dressed as little ballerina’s as well :) . Recently, I saw a blog post on stylemepretty.com where they used hanging glass bubble vases filled with flower heads and I just had to incorporate that into the ceremony décor as well.  My vision, is to have the below wrought iron Chuppah covered in vines and flowers with flower heads and bubble vases hanging through-out the center at varying heights.

At our chosen venue, we are using the same room for our ceremony and reception which means we need to allow enough time in between to have the room flipped. We are expecting roughly 65 guests and have chosen a venue that accommodates up to only 90.  Due to the size of our venue, the head table is normally placed on the dance floor and is removed following dinner. This allows me to use the Chuppah as my focal point through-out the whole evening. During the ceremony we will be married under it. When the room is flipped, this Chuppah will have our head table (a round of 8 ) placed under it. After dinner, when that table is removed, the first dance will then take place under it.

This Saturday Firefly Occasions decided to come up with a little inspiration for anyone out there planning an upcoming wedding. We chose to do an inspiration board centered around a “touch of pink.” Whether you choose to wear pink shoes, decorate with pink flowers or even have pink backdrop lighting, we think it’s a very romantic yet stylish color theme! WARNING: Pink is one of those colors that is easily over done. –Note we said “touch” of pink. :) Our favorite shades are salmon and hot pink!

Inspiration boards are an elegant way to jumble all of your wedding ideas together to see how they look as a whole. It’s also a trendy way to showcase your wedding ideas to your friends and family and even inspire other brides! Are you interested in making an inspiration board too? Go to www.bridalcanvas.com.

She and He Fridays: A Wedding Planner’s Wedding

My name’s Kendra Scott, I’m the Wedding’s Division Manager at Firefly Occasions and as of December 19th, I now have my own wedding to plan! Every Friday I write a feature article where I document my personal wedding planning journey each step of the way.

Cupcakes, Candy Bar, Wedding Cake, Sundae Bar, there are sooooo many options! Probably my current favourite is the Sundae Bar we posted earlier this week on the blog:). However, I can’t have it all and my unhealthy obsession with Crave Cupcakes has taken over. The majority of my guests are travelling from Ontario and though they have their own cupcake shoppes there, I know many are looking forward to tasting these little mouth-fulls of joy that I won’t stop talking about :) . We’ve decided to go with a sweet table of mini cupcakes, macaroons and a 6” cake. This week I came across so many cute options for cake toppers and I’m really excited for the topper we’ve selected. I didn’t want a traditional Husband and Wife cake topper and I wasn’t sure what I did want. Luckily, Etsy.com never fails and I found an abundance of great ideas! I really liked the “Love” topper and custom colours were an option which is wonderful. However, I really fell in love with this sugar rose. I can’t believe the talent some people have. Can you believe this is made from sugar!? I’m curious to see how it’s shipped? Hopefully it’s not in little pieces when it arrives. They do say though that they won’t ship to Canada….minor detail haha that’s not stopping me.
Now that we’re within our six month mark to the wedding we can finally arrange a meeting for our cupcakes and cake… one of the only aspects my fiance has any interest in. :)

She and He Heart Mondays: Ice-cream Sundae Buffets

Posted July 19, 2010 in Advice, Cake, Decor, Guests, Recommends. See View Comments.

Let’s be serious. Nobody hearts Mondays. So every Monday we are here to lighten the mood and talk about things we do heart: Ice-cream sundae buffets.

She hearts the idea of anything unique and far from cookie cutter!

He hearts the thrill of being able to customize an ice cream Sundae.

Having an ice cream buffet for a wedding on a hot summer day is a unique and fabulous idea. Guests can choose their own flavor and sugary, colorful toppings. If you have an outdoor reception, this will be a great way to cool off your guests, entertain children and keep people talking about your exceptional, vibrant and entertaining ice cream buffet.

Having a buffet is also a great opportunity for you to incorporate your wedding colors, theme and decor.

Photos found at www.eatdrinkchic.com

She suggests: Light pastel colors such as salmon pink or mint green and cream.

He suggests: Having someone serve the ice cream to avoid a mess and ensure the buffet line moves along quickly. This is especially important if you have a large attendance at your reception. Bon Appetite!

by Ciara Daykin

It was supposed to be a beautiful springtime outdoor wedding but when snow started falling in Calgary in May we knew the wedding would need to be moved inside. Luckily our backup plan worked out perfectly and the couple were married with a backdrop of a beautiful oak wall with lime green and brown lampshade chandeliers. The aisle was lined with green amaranthus and guests sat in gold chiavari chairs.

The bride and groom had a ton of fun taking photos with Perry Thompson Photography and returned to their room at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce which had been completely transformed into their reception. Tables had corkscrew place card holders, green napkins, chocolate brown dupioni silk table cloths and of course the gold chiavaris. You can see that chairs really do make a difference in the atmosphere of the room. The centerpieces were a combination of low boxes filled with green button mums, freesia and roses and tall lampshades on a vase with green orchids floating inside.

This weeks inspiration came from a lovely gown by Vera Wang. This bridal gown is a strapless, full A-line gown with a pleated bodice, emphasis on the natural waist and a softly tucked hand painted skirt. It can be discribed as vivacious as well as uniqeuly flattering and could only be the work of Vera Wang. Available in Citrus Watercolor, Ivory or White. The opening price points range from $3,100 – $4,500.

I’ve used this one dress to create two completely different weddings. The first wedding has a beautiful simplicity to it. It feels clean but not boring. I call this wedding Citrus Breeze. The second wedding will take you into a whimsical, enchanted forest and is appropriately titled Fairy Dust.
