My Wedding Budget: What’s worth it, what’s not
What’s Worth It
- A great photographer. You will have your photos for a lifetime and it’s important to capture those special moments. Have a list of specific shots that you want your photographer to capture. Ask your wedding planner who they would recommend. Check out their portfolios to understand their photography style.
- Wedding décor. This is what will make your wedding stand out from the thousands of others. Your décor is an expression of who you are as a couple. The décor will be in all the wedding photos. This is a great way to wow your guests and it will allow you create your fairytale wedding day that you’ve always wanted.
- Food and drink. Ensure your guests have a great time by having an open bar. Think of how much you appreciate it when you attend a friend’s wedding. People also remember food. If the food is good, it will not go unnoticed. Having great food will leave a lasting impression on your guests and it will be a fond memory for years to come.
What’s Not
- Expensive and meaningless wedding favors. Yes it’s great to have wedding favors but what’s the point of spending a fortune on useless knickknacks? Would you really want plastic trinkets with your friends’ wedding date on it. Think about favors that are meaningful and not wasteful. Chocolates, CD’s or tea are a great hit. We’ve even had a wedding where the couple gave away small trees for guests to plant.
- A full wardrobe of “bride and groom” attire. By this we mean sweatpants that say “bride” on the butt with a sweater, underwear, and t-shirt to match. Remember that you will only wear the outfit once. We don’t want you to miss out on the bride experience but be conscious when spending money on the various “bride and groom” swag found at almost any large retail store.
