A few months back I was having drinks with a friend of my sister in law who was getting married, being the music snob that I am, I had to ask what DJ he had hired. He replied that he was using his I-pod hooked into the venue system. He said he had a great play list picked out and he didn’t think he needed a DJ. Of course, I warned him about this. So last weekend I ran into him at the aforementioned Sister in law’s housewarming party…I asked him how it went and he said people hated it, his taste wasn’t in line with all the guests and people weren’t dancing. Sure I-pods are cool and all, but it’s called a personal MP3 player for a reason. It’s your taste and your music. I highly recommend getting a DJ, they can read the crowd and change up the music as needed. Even if you need to trim your budget in other areas to get the DJ, go for it, if no one dances, they will remember that your party kinda sucked. And you don’t want that!

Keelin I wonder who this is referring too?? ha-ha | September 28, 2009 02:38 pm
Cathy MacRae Simon is right! Crowds aren't always predictable. A good DJ knows how to read people, which includes when to pull things back a bit and when to jumpstart things. If you want your wedding to be a great party, you need someone who is a master at reading people and responding to their moods. iPods are great, but this is not the way to cut your budget!!! | September 29, 2009 08:51 pm
Melanie So true- you need someone who can read the crowd and make changes if necessary. We used our own sound system at our wedding, with a laptop and our ipods, however, we had a friend running the mix most of the night, which I would definitely recommend. | October 02, 2009 02:33 pm
